EYFS

EYFS

At Ombu we use the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) as a guide to help plan and guide each child’s development . The EYFS is a the current British and modern PLAY BASED approach to teaching young children that is in line with current child development principles in how children can develop socially, physically and academically. At Ombu we use the EYFS as a base and have developed our curriculum to meet the bilingual needs of the children. We are well aware that when we have high expectations for our children the sky is the limit and see our the EYFS as the floor and not the sky.

What is the EYFS?

The four guiding principles are A unique child: Every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident, and self-assured; Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships; Children learn and develop well in enabling environments with teaching and support from adults, who respond to their individual interests and needs, and help them to build their learning over time. Children benefit from a strong partnership between practitioners and parents. Children develop and learn at different rates.

What are the EYFS seven areas of learning and development?

Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) Communication and Language (C+L) Physical Development (PD) Literacy (L)

Mathematics (M) Understanding the World (UTW) Expressive Arts and Design (EAD)
